How to Carve the Perfect Pumpkin

STEP 1

Take your Dorset Country Pumpkin, rinse, dry and place it on a flat surface. Please get an adult to help.

STEP 2

With a thick marker pen draw an outline in either a circular or zig-zag pattern around the crown of the pumpkin. Using a sharp, serrated knife, follow the line and cut off the crown. Always cut away from you in case the knife slips.

STEP 3

Using a large spoon, scoop out the seeds and fibres, then remove some of the flesh. These parts of the pumpkin do not have to be wasted. Follow our links for ideas on how you can use the seeds to feed the birds and try our recipes for using the flesh.

STEP 4

Print out your Dorset Country Pumpkin template, cut-out the shapes and with a thick marker pen draw the outline of the face on to your pumpkin using the stencil.

STEP 5

Use a small serrated knife to cut out the eyes, nose and mouth shapes. Always cut away from you in case the knife slips.

STEP 6

Place a tea light inside the pumpkin, light it and replace the crown. For best effects place outside and light when it is dark, to create a spooky Halloween lantern.

It is with huge frustration and sadness that we will not be open for pumpkins this year. The inclement weather throughout the spring and summer has meant that our pumpkins have not grown as well as we'd hoped. We are really disappointed as usually we look forward to welcoming you to the farm at this time of year. We hope you have a fantastic Halloween!
