For almost 80 years the Millers have farmed at Longclose which has supported crop rotations including wheat, barley, oats, vetches, maize, beans and fodder crops such as kale, rape and turnips as well as grass for the cattle and sheep. Following the very wet autumn of 2019, part of the wheat crop failed to germinate and we found ourselves with a large bare patch in the corner of one of the fields. Having always had aspirations to diversify and try a novel crop such as pumpkins the opportunity presented itself when we found space for them, and so the dream became reality.
As in 2021, last year visitors were welcomed from across Dorset and beyond and they all enjoyed a truly rural pumpkin picking experience where you can pick your pumpkin in the field it was grown. This year we have tried more new varieties and of course we will be expanding the straw bale displays and adding to the farm animal section, so kid's of all ages can get to meet them. And for one weekend (14th & 15th October) we're again running a Craft Fair too enhance our visitors experience. We hope to welcome you soon.
Michael and Vicki Miller run the farm business alongside their sons Quenton and Justin and their daughter Georgina. The family have all worked together, ably supported by Alice and Kelly, Quenton and Justin's respective wives.
Our pumpkins have all been individually grown from seed in our greenhouse and planted in the pumpkin patch, without the use of herbicides or pesticides. There is a mix of varieties which have produced a lovely range of different sized orange and white pumpkins to choose from.

It is with huge frustration and sadness that we will not be open for pumpkins this year. The inclement weather throughout the spring and summer has meant that our pumpkins have not grown as well as we'd hoped. We are really disappointed as usually we look forward to welcoming you to the farm at this time of year. We hope you have a fantastic Halloween!
